Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commended Google CEO, Sundar Pichai for the company’s engagement in advancing AI and digital transformation in Nigeria.
During a meeting in Paris on February 11, President Tinubu, accompanied by Minister of Communication, Innovation and Digital Economy Bosun Tijani, engaged in discussions with a Google delegation regarding potential collaborations aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s position in the global digital economy.
The discussions covered initiatives such as expanding digital infrastructure, providing digital skills training for the workforce, encouraging AI-driven research, and promoting cloud adoption across industries.
The aim is to establish Nigeria as a key player in technological innovation and economic growth.
President Tinubu stated that this cooperation aligns with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which emphasises economic diversification through industrialisation, technology, and innovation.
He added that the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy would oversee the partnership, while the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) would coordinate efforts with the private sector.
Google CEO, Sundar Pichai reaffirmed the company’s commitment to Nigeria’s digital transformation, stating:

“Nigeria has an incredible opportunity to lead in AI and digital innovation in Africa. Google is excited to continue working with the Nigerian government to create an ecosystem that fosters innovation and economic growth.”
Dr Bosun Tijani described the partnership as an important step in accelerating Nigeria’s technological development, adding that AI and digital transformation should provide tangible benefits for businesses and citizens.
President Tinubu emphasised Nigeria’s potential as an emerging technology hub and reiterated his administration’s commitment to fostering a business-friendly environment that attracts investment from major technology firms.
He welcomed Google’s continued involvement in the country’s digital transformation efforts.
Discussions between the Nigerian government and Google will continue as both parties seek to further develop their collaboration and accelerate Nigeria’s digital growth.
